Sanctuary Early Learning Adventure at the Health and Knowledge Precinct recently had the privilege of welcoming 48 trainers from KKTC Education and six members of their Senior Leadership Team to the centre, as part of their annual conference. The visit was an opportunity for the trainers to explore how the centre embodies inclusion as best practice in both its design and programming.
Sanctuary’s Operations Manager, Michelle Tuffley said it was an honour to have Sam Hendry (CEO of KKTC) approach her with the request to tour the centre as a part of their annual conference.
“We have been working with KKTC for more than four years now, and to have their entire cohort tour our brand-new centre was a privilege,” she said.
Sanctuary’s commitment to inclusion is reflected in every aspect of its design and operations, ensuring that all children, regardless of their background or needs, feel welcomed and supported.
Sanctuary’s Diversity and Inclusion Leader, Melissa Taylor Hansford had the opportunity to speak with the KKTC team around the commitment to inclusion at the centre.
“Part of the approach at Sanctuary Health and Knowledge Precinct is to research, create, test and trial new ways of working alongside families as well as children.”
“The Sanctuary Family Model of Support is a formalised approach for ensuring families have connections they need to advocate for and support their children.”
With an inclusion lens that started at the centre in planning, right through to design and into the curriculum, the tour highlighted the ways in which early childhood education can be both innovative and inclusive.
As trainers responsible for shaping the next generation of educators, the team from KKTC gained valuable insights into how they can support this model of inclusion within the training programs they deliver. By experiencing the physical and operational elements of the centre, they were better equipped to understand how to integrate these best practices into their curriculum.
At the conclusion of the tour, KKTC’s CEO Sam Hendry said it really was a great experience for their team of Trainers and Assessors from all over Australia to see firsthand what excellence in design and curriculum look like in our sector.
