Nestled amongst the tropical hinterland of sunny Buderim, you will find Sanctuary Early Learning Adventure; a child care centre that fosters a nurturing environment where children thrive through real life learning, independence, curiosity and a deep connection with nature.
It’s no secret that the child’s interest and voice is at the core of every learning opportunity and activity. With a consent-based pedagogy, children are empowered through their autonomy and choices.
Recently rated as an Exceeding centre, it’s worth a visit to see the Sanctuary Philosophy in practice with the children, the environments and the team.
A little over 18-months ago, the Sanctuary Buderim team made a commitment to strive for Exceeding. As you make your way through the centre, you can feel every reason why they’ve been awarded this rating.
“The team have poured their hearts into authentically connecting with the children, the community and each other which all stems from our Sanctuary philosophy,” says Centre Director, Belinda Hammond.
“The opportunity to showcase this to an Authorised Officer was their moment to demonstrate their individual connection in practice.”

Mealtime rituals
Sanctuary Buderim see all children as capable and competent, which is why mealtime rituals are embedded from the baby’s studio, through to the Kindergarten room.
Children are invited to set the table at mealtimes with a table cloth, real crockery, glassware, flowers and a candle.
This experience sets the scene for mealtimes and provides children with a sense of respect and belonging. During the mealtime children also self-serve and at times serve their friends – further establishing their sense of independence and care for others.
Care for the environment
Sanctuary Buderim is deeply rooted in nature. The centre boasts an active worm farm, a native bee hive and a bush tucker garden, providing children with opportunities to engage with the natural world firsthand. Tending to real garden beds allows the children to witness the cycle of growth and develop a profound appreciation for the environment. Through these experiences, children not only learn about sustainability but also cultivate a sense of responsibility towards the planet.
Ongoing professional learning with a pedagogical leader
Central to Sanctuary’s vision is the ongoing professional learning with Kelly Goodsir. The Sanctuary Buderim team have worked with Kelly to deepen their focus on a child-led program and consent based pedagogy concentrating also on small grouping. By prioritising the interests and agency of each child, Sanctuary creates an environment where learning is meaningful and engaging.
Sanctuary Early Learning Adventure in Buderim provides more intentional learning opportunities and care for their children and families. All you need to do is walk through their front door to see and feel the impact this is making.
There is only so much we can tell you in words and pictures – this is a centre you need to visit to feel and see it all for yourself!
