Sanctuary Early Learning Adventure is nestled between rolling mountains in Redlynch, on a piece of land that once belonged to the beautiful Rigg family.
For more than 40 years, Ivy, a former teacher aide and her husband Alan, a former police officer of the area, raised their family on this property before selling up and moving to the Atherton Tablelands. Ivy was incredibly well known in the area and rumour has it, won the most awards for her baked goods and freshly grown vegetables than any other entrant in the history of the Cairns show!
Our Sanctuary team are incredibly fortunate to have formed such a lovely bond with the Rigg family, with Ivy and her daughters and grandchildren having visited a number of times since the centre opened in December.
Sanctuary Early Learning Approved Provider, Lauren Hall says they are so proud to have such a beautiful connection to the area.
“To know this property holds such a legacy, we just cannot wait to continue with the children of today and the future – and involve the Rigg family wherever we can,” she says.
The centre has created a veggie garden and it has been aptly named ‘Ivy’s Garden’ with Ivy working with the children to establish a healthy bed of herbs, tomatoes and zucchinis – with plans to expand as the seasons come and go.
Sanctuary already has a commitment to sustainability, with an embedded Green Team keeping the centre on track – the relationship with Ivy and her family only further enhances the learning opportunities for the children in this space.
